Designing for Death: Person-Centered Experience Design for the End of LifeKatie Green

Explore the practice of using person-centered design to create meaningful immersive experiences for loved ones as a way of honoring them, creating lasting memories, and easing their transition. You may also choose to design an experience in preparation for your own death.

From the Artist

Behind every grief, there is a wish full of deep longing and love. Even if the wish cannot be fulfilled literally, I believe that person-centered experience design can honor the spirit of the wish, as well as the dignity and individuality of the person.

In this interactive workshop we’ll explore the practice of creating meaningful experiences as a way of honoring our loved ones. You may also choose to design an experience in preparation for your own death.

These experiences may be an act of service for someone who is still with us, a way of paying tribute to someone who has died, or a way to provide comfort around a specific pain point. Together we’ll reflect on our relationships, discuss key questions and tools, and create a moving experience for someone we love.

Katie Green is an experience designer, death doula, and therapist living in Austin, TX. She is a co-founder of Ginkgo End of Life Services and the artistic director of Twin Alchemy Collective.
